The Pied Piper is a well-known character from German folklore. The character first appeared in legends from the town of Hamelin in the Lower Saxony region of Germany. This first appearance in folklore came in the Middle Ages with early depictions and writings describing a figure dressed in a multicolored outfit. He was known to have a magical pipe that he would use to lure rats out of a town, a service that many towns around Germany hired him to perform.
The obverse of 1 oz Medieval Legends Pied Piper Silver Rounds comes with a depiction of the infamous Pied Piper playing his magical flute. He is depicted at the center of a small village in Germany during the Middle Ages. Though the Pied Piper is often hired to lure rats out of town, when the townspeople don’t pay him, he is said to retaliate by using his magical pipe to ensnare their children instead and lead them out of town to an unknown fate.
On the reverse of Medieval Legends Pied Piper Silver Rounds is a common design element that will feature on all the rounds in this series. The setting captured here includes a table setting that faces a stained glass window. On this table, you will notice each of the relics of the figures in this series. You will notice the Pied Piper’s magical flute on the table in the foreground.
