The Aztec army was one of the most feared in the New World. The Aztec Empire built its army through the combination of forces from three Mexica culture city-states. Tenochtitlan was the leading city-state and worked together with Texcoco and Tlacopan as the major components of the Aztec Empire. The warriors from Tenochtitlan were generally the leading fighters in Aztec society, but warriors from the other city-states often earned elite status as well.
The obverse of the 1 oz Aztec Warrior Silver Round features the image of an elite eagle warrior from the Aztec Empire. This individual has war paint on his body and wields a spear in his right hand. The shield in his left hand is part of what identifies him as an eagle warrior as it is draped in feathers along the bottom. His helmet also identifies him as an eagle warrior. These elite soldiers wore helmets with beautiful plumage and the open beak of an eagle.
On the reverse of Aztec Warrior Silver Rounds is a common design for the entire series. Here, you will find a Spartan warrior’s helmet in the center of the design field. The helmet has the horsehair crest that identifies that individual fighter as an officer. The weapons in the background include the Dory spear, short sword, and battle axe popular with Spartan soldiers.
